Today Spain celebrates a national holiday: The Day of All Saints, a typical Christian holiday, very important in Spain where 76% of the population identify themselves as Catholics.
During the 1st of November Spaniards takes the opportunity to remember their family and friends that have passed away by visiting cemeteries and going to mass.
The name of “All Saints” refers to the origin of this festivity, during the 8th century, when the Pope Gregory III established the 1st of November as a festivity to honor all the Saints (known and unknown).
