What comes to mind when the phrase travel to Spain pops up? Perhaps Madrid, Barcelona, Salamanca or Granada would top the list. Yet, my memorable travel to Spain seems to be on the less trodden path. I went to Palencia, Spain for a couple of days and it was the best picture that I painted of a Spanish land.

Tourist expectation on what to find in a certain place like Palencia depends on the kind of personality you have. The usual thing that tourist do in Palencia is visit places that are of historical value to the people in the place. It is like visiting the place’s past. You can flashback the events on your mind as you walk on the exact place that historical figures did thousands of years ago.

There are three major architectures and institutions and tourist attraction that I love most in Palencia. The mosaic floors, University of Palencia, and Palencia Cathedral. Though there are lots of activities to get engaged in your stay in this place and lots of places, architecture and museums to google over.

The mosaic floors were uncovered by the archaeologist together with the remains of
Roman Villas. These are proofs of the early civilization in Palencia which was destroyed in the 15th century. How many years had passed since the destruction? And these mosaic floors are now preserved for tourist and locales to reminisce Palencia’s past.

The very first university in Spain is found in Palencia province known as University of Palencia ;the alma mater of historical and religious figures such as Don Diego d’ Azevedo, Saint Dominic, Saint Peter Gonzalez Telmo and Saint Julian of Cuenca. The university has produced so many men famous for their science and virtue hence the saying “In Palencia arms and science” or En Palencia armas y ciencia.
