TRAVEL GUIDES DIRECTORY: CADIZ SPAIN

BEACHES

Cadiz City lies on a peninsula that is part of the Spanish coastline facing the Atlantic Ocean. This coast, nicknamed Costa de la Luz or the Coast of Light, boasts of kilometers of white beaches with glorious sunsets and quaint seaside villages. Part of Costa de la Luz belongs to the Huelva Province situated towards the border between Spain and Portugal; the rest belong to Cadiz Province. Among Cadiz City s popular coastline neighbors is Tarifa, which is on the southern end of Costa de la Luz . It is known for kite surfing and windsurfing. Further up the coast from Tarifa , you ll find Barbate . Barbate has relatively gentler winds and is also a popular site for local tourists during summer months.

Travel Guides Directory: Cádiz Spain Within Cadiz City boundaries, the beaches or la playas comprise of 25% of the total bay area. La Playa de la Caleta has the best, seemingly ancient view among the Cadiz beaches with its location situated between 2 old castles: the San Sebastian and Santa Catalina castles. Another appeal is its proximity to the vineyard neighborhoods called Barrio de la Viña. Another popular Cadiz beach is La Playa de la Victoria --considered a family beach with its smooth sands and steady waves. Sports activities like jet skiing can be enjoyed in Victoria , but there are also areas to lounge under the sun with rented beach umbrellas and chairs. Across the avenue, there are interesting shops and restaurants that the tourists of La Playa de la Victoria can enjoy.

In recent years, Cadiz beaches have been reduced and damaged by erosion. But actions have been undertaken by the city officials to regenerate the sands from the beaches and improve coastal infrastructure for public use. This will hopefully preserve the beach charm of Cadiz and keep tourists and locals coming in. Other beaches in Cadiz that visitors can go to include La Playa Cortadura, La Playa del Chato and La Playa de Santa Maria del Mar which is located in the old district of the city.
