TRAVEL GUIDES DIRECTORY: CADIZ SPAIN CHIPIONA

Travel Guides Directory: Chipiona Cádiz Spain Piedra de Salmedina is a massive rock boulder that sticks out of the water in the River Guadalquivir. It was the cause of many shipwrecks. To warn incoming ships about this rock, Quinto Sevilius built a lighthouse and named it "Chipiona."

Of Roman lineage, Chipiona today bears semblance to its past through ruins that can be found all over the town. It is a quaint town during the day but gets lively at night as tourists pour in their glasses the town's best wine called "Moscatel."

Very popular for its clean beaches, Chipiona is a coastal town within Cadiz. On its west is Jerez de Frontera and on the south, about only 9 kilometers away is the town of San Lucar.

Famous for its "Moscatel wine," Chipiona grows grapes of a different variety.
