TRAVEL GUIDES DIRECTORY: CADIZ SPAIN ROTA

PLACES OF INTEREST

Travel Guides Directory: Rota Cádiz Spain The old Rota still holds some historical monuments that visitors must not fail to see. First among these is the Castillo de Luna. This fine building is the official emblem of the town. It houses the town hall, as well as the tourist office. The building was constructed on the site of an old Muslim castle that was destroyed in the 13th century.

The Iglesia Parroquial de Nuestra Señora de la Expectación is a church that was built between the 16th and 17th century. The structure exhibits a mix of baroque and gothic styles.

The Torre de la Merced is a tower that used to be part of the Convent of Merced. The convent and tower were destroyed in an earthquake in 1722; the tower was rebuilt later on.

The Capilla de San Juan Bautista ("Chapel of St. John the Baptist") is a chapel dedicated to St. John the Baptist. This is a fine example of Andalucian architecture of the 18th century.

The Iglesia de San Roque ("Church of San Roque") is an old hermitage dedicated to the saint San Roque. It is a popular destination among the devout.
