TRAVEL GUIDES DIRECTORY: CADIZ SPAIN

TOWNS AND VILLAGES

These are some descriptions with reference to the whitewashed townships of the Cadiz province in Andalucia :

Alcala de los Gazules

Alcalá de los Gazules is to be found at the center of the Province of Cádiz , between the sea and mountains. It is just a little over 20 kilometers east of the community of Medina Sidonia . Over the recent decades, this village has exhibited minimal changes, and as a result, it has kept its classic architecture intact. Both locals and the tourists enjoy the sight of the town s outstanding and diverse baroque and neoclassical edifices and residential abodes. The Historic-Artistic status is still bestowed upon Cadiz up to this day.

Alcala de los Gazules is not all the time included on package tours, thus there are fewer bars and restaurants in the vicinity compared to the coastal town. In fact, English speakers or British menus are rare in this place. Nonetheless, there are hotels around the village where the tourist can stay after being delighted with the sights of asymmetrical avenues, fine plazas, and the quaint, whitewashed fortifications.

Benalup- Casas Viejas

Benalup-Casas Viejas, with only around 6,000 inhabitants, is known to be a young settlement with a rich history. The name of the town originated from a fortress built way back during the Muslim occupation, centuries ago. One of the main historic attractions of Benalup is the ancient pictographs in the natural caves and grottos found in the area.

For many years, the town of Benalup has survived relying on its farming bounty. Now it is a town of contrasts due to its agricultural wealth and urban growth. It is now known in the leisure and tourist industry for its first-rate golf course, the pet project of a capitalist from Belgium . The beautiful greens and fairways give evidence to its outstanding accomplishment.

Benalup is just at the entry of the Los Alcornocales Natural Park , and it parallels Barbate River, running next to it. This town can be reached by making a detour from the Los Barrios to Jerez A381 road on to the CA212 and then continuing on the Medina Sidonia or Vejer de la Frontera near the coast.

Travel Guides Directory: Cádiz Spain Castellar de la Frontera

Castellar de la Frontera is an aged township, comfortably elevated on a hilltop in the province of Cadiz . Due to its altitude, the locals of this area can always take pleasure on the impressive sight of the Guadarranque reservoir. During the Bronze Age, this place became a medieval stronghold. In many caverns in the area, the prehistoric occupation is still very much distinguishable, just by looking at the series of cave drawings. Castellar de la Frontera served a vital role in the wars between the Spanish and the Muslims. With its elevation far above the ground, it was truly a beneficial, strategic location during those times of fatal contentions.
