L'Escala is a little seaside town on the Empord coast, in the province of Girona in the Autonomous Region of Catalonia in Spain. It used to be a sleepy fishing village that has grown as a result of the rise of tourism.

The weather in L'Escala is a typical example of Mediterranean climate: mild and often wet winters, and dry and warm summers. Thanks to L'Escala's very close proximity to the sea (it lies right on the coastline), temperatures are decidedly lower than in inland areas.
