PLACES OF INTEREST
The Plaza del Castillo (castle square) is the core of the town. The castle is currently being renovated, as it plays a crucial role in local events. The San Andrés Castle was erected back in the 16th century. It was around this era that the population doubled and grew well until the second half of 18th century.
There are two other noteworthy structures. One is the Torre del Rayo (Tower of the Thunderbolt) in the north built 1584 and the Torre de Mesa Roldán in the south constructed in 1776. Others structures worthy of a visitor's time include the Parish Church de San Antonio de Padua, the patron saint of Carboneras, the Casa del Laberinto (Labyrinth House) designed by Andre Bloc in 1964 and a fine 19th century Mansion House relegated to be the Town Hall.
