TRAVEL GUIDES DIRECTORY: COSTA ALMERIA SPAIN EL EJIDO
TOWN HISTORY
El Ejido's remarkable history is bound never ever to be forgotten, what with continuing archaeological interest in the region. In 1985, excavations revealed Neolithic settlements from about 3,000 B.C. to the Bronze Age in 1,500 B.C. This site is named as the city of Murji. It was assumed by the Romans from the 4th century B.C. to the 4th century A.D. On view at the Ciavieja Archaeological Park, part of the town's Cultural Centre, are the exquisite remnants of a large Roman mosaic, together with other relics. Meanwhile, at the other end of the town, just adjacent the motorway is El Daimun. This is a Roman family's mausoleum.
