Castell de Santa Barbara - The remarkable castle of Santa Barbara was originally built by the Carthaginians in 400 BC and later used by the Romans and Moors. Its fortress is massive, encompassing drawbridges, barracks, moats, tunnels, cisterns, guardrooms, dungeons, a stately tower, bakery, hospital and a keep! Towering over Alicante , the castle´s crest offers a spectacular view of the city and its bay. The castle can be accessed via an elevator from the Explanada d Espanya, for $2.90.
