TRAVEL GUIDES DIRECTORY: COSTA DE LA LUZ SPAIN PUNTA UMBRÍA

BEACHES

Travel Guides Directory: Costa de la Luz Spain Punta Umbría The town boasts of more or less 12km of fine, golden sands and beaches, with clear, clean waters of the Atlantic. The beach is considered by many as the most developed beach area around and has been granted the distinguished Blue flag award of the European Union. The pure and unpolluted beach is the foremost reason why Punta Umbría has received this Blue flag over and over again. It is without doubt, one of the best beaches in Spain especially because it is the one with the highest quality of services and facilities.

The area is wide and spacious and it gets a lot of visitors due to the increasing number of commercial establishments in the area. Around here, there are many happy bars as well as restaurants and refreshment stands where you can enjoy a cool refreshing drink. Services on offer here also include a lot of water sports like windsurfing and there are also plenty of different places for you to park your vehicle close to the shores.

One more thing that distinguishes Punta Umbría from the other beaches around is the Ría , as mentioned previously. This refers to the part of the estuary of the Tinto and Odiel rivers which flows down into the sea. Along with this is a dynamic ecosystem which is a healthy habitat to a vast diversity of numerous species of plants together with some colonies of birds like the colorful flamingos . This distinctive habitat is particularly suited to a vast variety of wildlife, especially for birds. In here, amidst glorious sand dunes, pine woods, lush vegetation, marshes and freshwater lagoons, are live scores of the flamingos playing along with rare birds of prey such as 25 pairs of lynx and mongooses.

Punta Umbría is also rich in pine groves and dunes which separate its one side from the sea. On the other side is the Odiel Salt Marshes Nature Reserve . The town s beach is principally a fishing village but it has been hugely transformed by a large increase in tourism. This industry has contributed well enough not only to the installation of a range of services along its beach but also to improving the practice water sports at its sailing harbor. Just at the opposite of Punta Umbría is the beach of Espigón which is an 8km long strip of fine sands that can be reached via Aljaraque. The towns itself has many beaches which it can boast of .
