TRAVEL GUIDES DIRECTORY: COSTA VERDE SPAIN: CUDILLERO

Cudillero is one of the towns you cannot miss when you visit Asturias . Without leaving the regional roads which skirt the coast, you can pass by the towns of Aviles, Salinas and Pravia . You can also visit the towns of Llanes and Ribadesella en-route. Farther on is the picturesque, quiet town of Cudillero , sitting on the side of the mountain. It is actually an old but active fishing port made up of clusters of glass-enclosed galleries and different-leveled roofs. Exceptional are its houses with eaves and bright-colored windows perched on the steep cliffs around the port.

Travel Guides Directory: Costa Verde Spain Cudillero At the town center, you should see the Church of San Pedro , a building conceived in a simple late Gothic style which dates from the 16 th century and contains wonderful baroque carvings. Another important building is the chapel of Humilladero , which is the oldest structure in town.

Near Cudillero is the 19 th century El Pito Palace (or Los Selgas ) which boasts of a wonderful collection of 16 th century Flemish tapestries. The fishermen's taverns, which are located in a narrow cobbled square alongside to the sea, are also charming. You will not regret taking a walk to the lighthouse, La Garita, La Atalaya or El Pico . The view is spectacular. The region has many natural attributes, good for trekkers and climbers. El Silencio is an isolated, unspoiled beach. It is not very crowded and has calm waters. At night, the lights of the town and the cool breeze create a very relaxing, romantic mood.

Cudillero enjoys an abundance of rainfall and its geographical location has made the town a wealthy region of flora, fauna and landscape. It possesses some of the wildest, most scenic countryside in Asturias.

Cudillero is indeed a treasure for the traveler -- an elegant seaside town, with fine coastal areas and breathtaking gorges and cliffs, not to mention its beaches.
