The first Franco-Norman village is situated in Yaiza , in the area of the Rubicon. This is where the conquest began but the severe pirate attacks forced the inhabitants of the village to take refuge in Femes, a more inland and higher location.

In the year 1741, the tower named La Forteleza del Aguila , or de Las Coloradas , was erected in Playa Blanca . It was destroyed and rebuilt later under the reign of Carlos III .

For centuries, much of the population settled in Femes but after some time, Yaiza began to regain importance as it gradually became an agricultural village. However, in 1730, the population once again abandoned the village and moved back to Femes for fear of the volcanic activity around the area of Timanfaya . There were some eruptions that continued to occur for the next seven years, burying a total of eleven villages. In 1952, Yaiza finally became the foremost center for its population had surpassed that of Femes .
