TRAVEL GUIDES DIRECTORY: MALLORCA SPAIN: CAN PICAFORT

EVENTS AND FESTIVALS

Spain is well-known as a country that never runs out of festivals to rejoice about. Mallorca, of course, is not different when it comes to celebratory behavior, just like all the other places in Spain. Below is a list of National Holidays and much-celebrated local fiestas of Mallorca. There are also added dates of some popular events that happen across the island!

Feast of Sant Antoni

The first fiesta of the calendar year, held around mid January to honor Sant Antoni, the patron saint of animals. The event starts when the local residents sit around little bonfires and sing traditional songs and roast classic island products. The blessing of the animals concludes with a colorful parade.

Held around the 15th of August, this illegal fiesta is still observed, attracting over 3,000 people. Each year the Conselleria d'Agricultura y Pesca of the Government warns the local town hall of Santa Margalida that it is prohibited to celebrate this fiesta. Warns and sanctions do not inhibit the locals from celebrating this annual event, instead, the local town hall even prepares roughly 3000 Euros (from the municipal treasury) to pay for the fine.

Feast of Santa Margalida

Held July 20 each year, the Feast of Santa Margalida is assumed to be one of the oldest fiestas of Majorca, dating back to the year 1405. It is celebrated over a period of five days, with a wide range of games, sports and other popular activities.

Feast of Santa Catalina Tomas

Celebrated on the first weekend of September. During the event, devils with bells run through the streets and wake up the villagers. Traditional parades will not be missing, of course.
